Try getting the Haynes or other manuals at an automotive hardware store. They're a great help when maintaining your own car.
Drop the tranny.

Get a new throw out berring.

Anew pressure plate.

you have to dismantle the tranny,be carefull when inserting the new throw out berring,or you'll destroy the clutches, cause it has to go in correct,if it's backwards, then you'll tear it up,take your time and it's easy, you wont have a probelem, standerd are easy,i re did my automatic turbo hydromatic, and WOW you talk about complicated gezz, there are so many parts it was un real,so take your time.Of course new clutch plates to.

Torex screws on a clutch for harley 98 sportster?

okay i've been trying to remove four torex screws from my cover to change the clutch cable out and for the life of me they will not budge. i've even twisted the head on my torex wrench and nothing happens. any ideas on how to remove these?Torex screws on a clutch for harley 98 sportster?
Use an impact hammer, a hand held ratcheted punch that takes torx bits, twist the head to the left and hit with a mallet or hammer. %26lt;$20, probably borrow 1 from your local auto parts store like O'Reilly's,Torex screws on a clutch for harley 98 sportster?
If you have an impact driver i would suggest getting a snap-on torx bit and using it with the impact driver. This should loosen them up a bit. Also, if they wont budge after that maybe try putting some penetrating oil on them an letting it sit for like 15 minutes and try it again.
I forgot the size of the torx screw but go to your local parts store and buy a 1/4 drive torx. The same torx will work on the primaries also, make sure to clean the treads on everything with brakes parts cleaner and put a drop of lock tite on the treads.
You need a small flat ended punch that will fit inside the torx head, and a hammer. Set the tip of the punch into the bolt head and back it off slightly, leaving a silght gap and SMACK it with the hammer. You want the punch to impact the bolt....hammer-to-punch SMACK, punch-to-bolt SMACK. Do this 3 or 4 times. This is called ';shocking the bolt';. Then try the torx bit (T-27)and ratchet to remove the bolt.

If this doesn't work, you will need to chisel it off. With a small SHARP chisel and hammer, cut a groove into a side of the bolt head, then angle the chisel into the slot and firmly tap rapidly with the hammer clounter-clock wise until it breaks free.

This why you should always use Never-Sieze on these bolts, on the threads, and under the bolt head....same applies to the primary chain inspection cover screws, these are tapered, counter sunk bolts that sieze constantly.

What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?

I have a hydraulic clutch and I was wondering if anyone could give tips for starts/shifts/driving in general on how to save the clutch. I have a slight concern for the future of changing my clutch, as it is expensive and I would like to prolong it as long as possible.

I drive a 2001 VW GTI, with 57k miles. What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?
Learning to Rev-match will save lots of wear on your clutch. The majority of wear on a clutch disc is from the disc having to make up the difference between engine speed and transmission input shaft speed.

Using my 1987 Mazda RX-7 as an example, here's how you rev-match. Let's say I'm cruising along in 3rd gear at 2000rpm (around 30mph) and I want to shift down to 2nd. First, step on the clutch and pull it out of 3rd. With the clutch still in, rev to 3000 as you slot the shifter to 2nd. Then release the clutch and accelerate.

How high you need to rev depends on your transmission's gear ratios. It'll take some practice to get it right, but it'll be seamless when you do. To get an idea of what you need to rev to, I'd suggest taking your car out on an empty stretch of road and keeping it at 2000rpm in 4th gear, then downshifting to 3rd gear and maintaining the same actual speed. You'll find out exactly what the difference is then (mine is 50%, or 1000rpm in this case). In my car, 4th gear at 2000rpm is the same speed as 3rd gear at 3000rpm. 4th gear at 3000rpm would be 3rd at 4500rpm and so on. Your car might be geared differently, so you should take a notebook with you and write down the rpm differences between gears. And most of all, keep your starting speed consistent. I used 2000rpm and found my car has a 50% difference between gears (it goes up to 3000rpm on downshift)

Once you got that down, you might try giving heel-and-toe a try. Basically, you are rev-matching on a downshift while braking.

Step on the clutch

Step on brakes,

Downshift and rev-match using the heel of your right foot, while braking with your toe

Release all 3 pedals and accelerateWhat are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?
DON'T use the clutch to brake. Don't downshift when you are stopping, just shift into neutral and brake normally. Brakepads are a lot cheaper and easier to replace than a clutch.

If you're willing to slightly reduce the life of your transmission, you can shift without using the clutch at all. There are shift-points where the gears match up naturally. Once you find them, you can just quickly jump up gears without the clutch. Having a tachometer really helps to find your shift points.
thats a good question. usually clutchs last for a long time ( say every 50k or so ) but it also depends on how you drive.

when starting, usually you will have the car in 1st or second gear when parked, so when you start it, you can just push the clutch to start it. if you were to shift to neutral before starting the car, the clutch wont engage, and therefore adding a slight amount of life too it.

also, upshifting, you have to shift as smooth as possible, when the engine rpm, and trans rpm are about the same. don't give it too much gas when up shifting.

the same applied to down shifting. do it as smooth as possible.

when stopping at a red light, the less you have the clutch pressed in while in gear the better, so shift to neutral if you are going to be at a light for sometime. even when the clutch is pressed in, there is a slight friction going on, not much, but in the long run, it makes a difference.
Michael Hunt has the idea to not use your clutch, and it is a good idea. You don't need to look at your rpm gage, it can get you into trouble. Just listen to your engine, it will tell you when to change gears with out the clutch. Most of the time you will start in 1st gear, just go fast enough to get your car rowling. At this time you will use the clutch, now with out the clutch pull it out of 1st and go to 2nd. Don't do it fast just do it easy, now give it gas till to YOU it sounds like time to change to 3rd, pull it out of 2nd - no clutch and go to 3rd. Now if you can't get it out of 2nd slow it down a little, then see if you can pull it out of gear. Now to gear down, don't use your clutch. If in your highest gear, just slow down some pull it out of that gear, to go to your next highest gear, run your rpm up till it falls into that gear. Because as you run your rpm up and trying to push it into gear, (not hard) just hard enough to go into gear, if your rpm is high enough it will just fall into gear. You will learn in time, just keep trying.

  • How long to change a clutch in a 95 camaro Z28?

I have to put a new clutch in my 95 camaro Z28 LT1 with a 6 speed manual . My rear seal is leaking bad so it leaked oil all over the clutch and now it slips like crazy. So I bought a new rear main seal and a new clutch kit. I am a pretty skilled mechanic I'm just curiouse if any one has ever done one and what I am up against. How long does anybody know will it take to do this job?How long to change a clutch in a 95 camaro Z28?
It's all common sense. Driveshaft, exhaust, crossmember, starter, trans, pressure plate, flywheel...in that order. You'll have to take the flywheel somewhere to get it resurfaced, but it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm not sure about your seal...I own a fox chassis Mustang, not a Chevy...I don't see how it could be much different though. Installation is reverse of removal. Don't forget trans fluid. Do yourself a favor...Go real easy on the new clutch for the first 500 or so miles. A well broken-in clutch grabs MUCH better than one that wasn't treated well. To answer your question: With the car on jackstands I'd say maybe one Saturday if you don't run into any major snags. Last thing...Tag ang bag your bolts and pay attention to the way **** came apart. How long to change a clutch in a 95 camaro Z28?
it takes like 2 hours, youll be fine
Depends on shop, tools, and experience. Usually a good mechanic can do this in about 3-4 hours.

ther is a cross pin ,find it and the rest is easy.

excuse me , are You talking of the fork of the throwout bearing or the shifter fork.

if the shifter fork then You have to remove the upper plate in the tranny (four screws) that plate have the shifter knob in the center, then you gonna see the forks for the gears.

if is Your first time ,do not rust and look good in Your steps

i will stay in the line in case You ask more questions..

I need to change the clutch on my yamaha banshee(atv),any websites that show how to do so?

This won't show you how to do it, but ti will show you the disassembled parts diagram, which usually works fairly well enough to do a clutch on your own.

You'll need a new set of wearing plates before you start.

who ever told you 2500 was wrong. it didn't even cost me 300 total to fix my car and they had to take the engine out. i didn't fix my clutch but your car like most just needs the trans to be dropped and fixed. but be aware and ask the mechanic for what else you have to fix. such as if its a hydraulic clutch(not to be mixed up with the brake hydraulic cylinder.) if it ain't hydraulic then just ask if anything else should be replaced at this time because if you don't do it now, you will have to later on and have to pull out the tranny all over again. How hard is it to change out a clutch for 00 tegy ls?
From what i understand its quite a pain in the ***. You need have the tools, espically the one where as in you need to take the ENGINE out.
you can unbolt tranny from motor and change it, u dont have to take out the motor at all. i changed my friends and the most we had to do for a clutch job was take out trans and loosen some mounts, u need more than a couple of hands though, but if i were u and u dont have a good mechanic understanding, a clutch job shouldn't be more than 250-400 dollars...where did 2500 come from?
The only Integra clutch I've done was on my son's 1994. The 2000 may be significantly different.

Of course, the front axles come out. Otherwise dis-assembly was no big deal. The job threw us two curves, though. The first was that we couldn't get the pilot bearing out, even breaking an extractor tool. The bearing came out the back of the flywheel! And when we took the transmission down we had to rotate it about 30 degrees to clear something so we had to make the opposite adjustment when putting it back up. That meant we couldn't use a transmission jack, and I actually pulled a muscle in my face getting the transmission to drop into place. Every time I do a clutch I swear it will be the last time.

How to change an clutch in an 87 crx?

remove the tranny and change it.How to change an clutch in an 87 crx?
drop the tranny, take the throw out bearing off, take the pressure plate off, then the clutch will come right out. you might check the pilot bearing in the crank and look at the bearing retainer, where the throw out bearing runs on, to see if its rough, check the flywheel for burn places ans cracks. if everything looks good, install the clutch, but check the clutch, it should say flywheel side, then just put it in, then the pressure plate, then the throwout bearing, then the tranny.

To be honest, if you are asking the question then its better you take the car to a garage and get them to do it. Its a real pig of a job to do if you don't know what you are doing, the best way to do it is to drop the lower suspension and lower the engine and gear box out.

  • How much can I adjust my clutch ?

I have a VW Polo, I have to press my clutch down to the floor now to change gear and the gears are beginning to crunch a little when changed. The clutch is not slipping yet. I wondered how much adjustment I would have available and how long it would last. The clutch has been in the car from new and it is 8 years old now.

Thanks in advanceHow much can I adjust my clutch ?
your clutch is fine...cable may be stretched needing replaced...now if its a hydrolic[no cable] it may need bleeding...How much can I adjust my clutch ?
8 years ! You have no more adjustment , you need a new clutch.............
I would say it's just the cable out of adjustment: If the clutch is worn out, it tends to bite somewhere near the top of it's travel, not at the bottom.
Until you cant adjust it any more !

Then ya got to replace it
To adjust your clutch the rule of thumb is to get the paddle in line with the foot brake and to do that is to adjust the nut on the end of the cable but if its self adjust it a new clutch fit
if you have to go that far, before you can change gears, then its time for a new pressure plate and clutch.
its not adjustable fit a new clutch

It would depend if you wanted a new transmission or a used one. I would guess the following:

    Clutch $150 to $200

    Transmission $ 500 to $800 used

    Transmission $1600 to $1800 new

    Installation $400 to $500

So I would say the least is $1050 to go with a used trans and a decent new clutch.

And yes, most places charge towing in any case. How much cost to change transmission and clutch?

I test drove a 93 Corolla and the clutch felt like it was on it's way out (the engagement point was really far up the pedal, and it didn't have much bite).

If I start from a standstill gentley and try to do mostly highway driving can I nurse it a few months?

When I used to work on my car (years ago) it didn't look that hard to change the clutch. How much will the parts cost me? (clutch, throw-out bearing, gear lube...?)

also the timing belt is due for a change, is the 4A-FE a non-interference engine? How long can I nurse a clutch for? how much to replace?
With the clutch, it's hard to say how long it will last but it will start slipping in the highest gear (4th or 5th) first - at this point, it must be replaced immediately. Before panicking, check the clutch adjustment - if it has never been adjusted, you may still have quite a few miles left but if it's already all the way up, you are likely to face the issue pretty soon. Cost of replacement - $400-500.

Technically, this is a non-interference engine but if the belt brakes at high RPM, is still may sustain damage. Also, t-belt replacement should not cost more than $400, and it's cheaper to do it when you have a choice than when you get stranded in the middle of nowhere, and a tow truck - at your expense - pulls you to the nearest shop that may take advantage of you simply because you have no choice. How long can I nurse a clutch for? how much to replace?
Replacing the clutch requires removing the transmission, so it is costly if you have a shop do it...depending how you shop around, it could be 3 - 400 at todays rates.

If you attempt it yourself, about 100 - 150 for parts, and perhaps 20 for a good alignment tool...
Call around for estimates on cost to repair, but first check to see if the clutch is adjustable, most hydraulic clutches are not. Clutches are not hard to change but it does take time. Be sure to get a repair manual and follow the instructions.

The clutch %26amp; throwout bearing will last many many miles / years if you learn to keep your left foot on the floor except while changing gears. This includes sitting at stop lights.
It completely depends on your driving habits and skill.
These are Nice little cars that hold up well and 100,000 mile out of a clutch is not uncommon. But this Car should be checked over By Your Mechanic....... Because Lowered Springs and Larger Lower Profile tires tells me someone Built them Selves a Street Racer And it may Have Been Beaten..... And it will ride Considerably Harder Also you should make Sure you get any Paper work on Replaced Parts for there Warranty. As Far as is it Worth it you should Look around at some Local Dealerships and see what there getting for similar Car with similar Mileage.
Well william what kind of car is it Honda? if it is hondas are good on clutchs ive seen many hondas go up to 100,000 miles or more without a clutch job if yes they are properly maintained and driven properly.
I have never changed one unless it wasn't working properly. Start and stop (city driving) wears a clutch faster than highway driving. Heavy loads and abuse also shorten service life. A properly installed clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, and pilot bearing might last the life of this car IF it is not abused.

Price seems a little steep for a car of this make and year. I usually get an estimate from ';Blue Book'; on the value of a car in the area it is located.
Clutch life largely depends on how the vehicle is driven, and where it is driven. a clutch can fail in a few thousand miles by Miss treatment. I have known clutches to last for many hundreds of thousands of miles when operated properly. If I were to place an average life span on a clutch I would say between 100 and 200 thousand miles. The car you are looking at has 140,000 miles on it and already had a new clutch installed. The price is in line with the type and model year, but I would be extremely wary because of the modifications that have been done on it. My opinion is that I would not buy it. Good luck!!
The Cluch changing is depending on the condition of traffic and bumps you ride/drive

So If you are a regular player of clutching than it will take 5000 to 7000 miles But if you are a wrong player of clutching than you ought to change after 2000 to 4000 miles

So my clutch went out on my car. Anyone know how much this is gonna cost?

    I drive a 2004 Chevy Cavalier

I stepped on my clutch, changed gears, and when I lifted my foot, the pedal wouldn't come back up.

Pulled over and it seems that the fluid is all leaked out. I filled it up, but nothing started working. It keeps leaking out. I believe on of the cylinders is blown. Anyone know how much that'll cost to fix?So my clutch went out on my car. Anyone know how much this is gonna cost?
you dont need a clutch. Sounds like the Slave Cylinder or Master Cylinder. Probably the Slave. But usually when one of these goes bad, the other works harder to compensate so it will eventually go bad too. Replace them both if you can afford it.

you need to replace those cylinders, then bleed the system before it will operate again. So my clutch went out on my car. Anyone know how much this is gonna cost?
you,ll need to replace both the clutch and the slave cylinder on it,so its going to cost you about 200 bucks to get this one back on the road again,i did one last week though and their not hard to do,good luck.

$20 repair manual or a visit to Auto Zones website can give you step by step. Or . Raise vehicle high enough to be able to work and remove trans from the side on the ground. Block vehicle , remove drive shaft, shift and clutch linkage remove trans mount bolts at the cross member, dust shield at the front ( if it still has one ). Support trans and engine, remove bell housing bolts, remove trans cross member. And lower away. Re and re the clutch disk , pressure plate and throw out and pilot bearing. It`s a good idea to have the flywheel resurfaced even if you do not see small hairline cracks in the surface. Borrow or rent a clutch alignment tool or you will curse for hours trying to get the input shaft in. Have fun. In the driveway with some air tools , ramps, all your parts and a box of beer . 2 guys can hit it off in an afternoon. may take longer to do the clutch after drinking all that beer though. Machining the flywheel not included..

How do i know when to change the clutch in my car?

sometimes it kicks out of a gear, and sometimes i go to shift and it makes a nasty gringing noise when the cluch is pushed and trying to shift into gearHow do i know when to change the clutch in my car?
That sounds less like a clutch problem and more like a transmission issue (bent forks or such inside). Clutches just slip when they need replacing due to wear or spring weakening. How do i know when to change the clutch in my car?
If you don't know you better take it to a technician. Those symptoms aren't nessesarily caused by a bad clutch.
It looks like you need a new clutch and throw out bearing. it make the grinding noise because of the clutch plate being wore out and you are not able to push it (the clutch) far enough. good luck

Trust me mate, i'm 15 and i know that it has a bugger to do, you need to take the gearbox case off, and that is really really heavy, u also need to take of the flywheel which the clutch is attached to, if you put the clutch in the wrong way you will have 5 reverse gears and one forward gear. Mate get a garage to do it, it is a nightmare to do.How easy or hard is it to change a clutch in a fiat punto 55 and about how much is the part.?
For a profesionnal it's an easy car for an smsnteur is a tough part because you need experience to do that and tools. Also you need special tools so you will put i center the cluch into the flyweel. The part costs about 80-100鈧?and includes the cluch set and bearing.

    How to change a clutch?

I need to know of anybody who knows how to change a clutch, well not all of it just the release bearing ????????? will it take long ? do i have to get underneath the car?How to change a clutch?
We need the year make and model of the car or truck to explain how to pull this job off. It does require a lot of ';back time';. If you have a front wheel drive car hire a private mechanic to do it because it takes a lot of tools and mechanical know-how. If the clutch is slipping right now the throw-out bearing isn't going to do squat! You'll need a pressure plate, clutch disc, machine shop to re-surface flywheel and a pilot bearing. How to change a clutch?
I can tell you had better find a real mechanic. You won't stand a chance.

The transmission has to be removed from the vehicle. You always check the clutch disc and pressure plate and many times the flywheel needs resurfacing at a machine shop.

If the release bearing is noisy, just keep driving. I've never taken a vehicle apart just for a release bearing.
Procedure varies depending on the car and whether it is rear or front drive though the following will apply -

The gearbox will have to be taken off the engine from underneath. This may need the removal of some engine mounts.

A good garage would do a simple one in about 2 hours but would take up to 5 hours for some cars (that is experienced people with full garage kit).

You would replace the whole clutch as a kit not just part of it while it was apart.

From your question I believe you will be taking it to the garage.
Yes i know, have changed many over the years - but older cars were easy compared to todays front wheel drive ones with a plumbers nightmare under the bonnet. On the mk1 Vauxhall astra 1200 you could change the clutch without removing the gearbox or dismantling anything else. I have often wondered why other manufacturers did not take this idea to heart.
If you're asking ';do I have to get under the car'; I think you'd better head to your nearest garage. Also, never change just one component, change the whole assy. No garage worth their salt would give you a warranty without changing the clutch assy.
You won't do it lying on your back in the road. It's a gearbox-off job, requiring a ramp and some fairly hefty tools. As already said, if you're determined to have it done then get the lot done at the same time, it'll save you paying another lot of labour in the future.
it`s not that easy the gearbox as to come of i would get some one preferably a garage to do it.
    What car is it?.

    Some are easy,some are diabolical.
take it to a garage chum .
You have a blockage in the radiator, you will have to take your car to a garage so that the can blow your radiator out and remove the blockage .

Change a clutch in a 1997 Suzuki RM80 dirt bike?

does anyone know any sites or diagrams anything that can help me learn how to change the clutch plates in my dirt bike 1997 Suzuki RM80Change a clutch in a 1997 Suzuki RM80 dirt bike?
It is soooooooo easy...First drain your oil...Then pull the side cover off the right side of your motor..Take the bolts out of your clutch basket..Should be a 9mm socket..Pull the outer plate out and you will be able to see your plates..Pull all your plates out..might have to use 2 small screwdrivers to get them out..go easy and make sure not to bend anything..You might have to use your steel plates if you didn't buy new...

Start putting in your new plates...start with a fiber plate and then a steel then a fiber and then a steel..and on and on...As long as you started with a fiber and ended with a fiber your good as gold..Put your plate back on...there might be a mark that you have to line up on your plate and your clutch boss..Like a dot and a little arrow so the plate fits all the way on..Now start putting your springs and bolts back on just snug..Once they are all snug..start to tighten them just a little more then snug..tighten one and then go across from theta one and tighten another and then across from that one..cris-cross..Do not tighten them too tight..don't want to break any....ok...now the side cover and gasket...if you broke your gasket get a new one...don't want it to leak..side cover bolts..just past snug...don't break one off....Your goood to go...Change a clutch in a 1997 Suzuki RM80 dirt bike?

On my 1999.5 Jetta TDI (quite different, I know) I had to drop the transmission but not the engine. I did this with the car on rhino ramps, and getting the transmission back up was extremely difficult to do by myself. I was not able to do it from beneath, so I ended up standing in front of the car, leaning waaaaaay forward and lifting the tranny into place. This was probably not the best thing I could have done for my back.

On www.tdiclub.com there is a good 100-page guide, with a photo on every page. It's a free download, but you'll have to search through the forums for a little bit to find it. Too much info to tell you. Go to an auto parts store and buy a chilton manual.
No, you don't need to drop the whole power train. You will need to hang 1sh the engine though because you will need to loosen the front pendulum mount and the back trans mount. I personally will not do this repair on the floor. It's a two person job to drop the trans. because you will need to tilt the back at 1 o'clock then drop or it get caught on the sub frame.
Go to your library and look at the Haynes manual, or better yet buy one.

It檚 done 60k miles and I'm confused bcz my local garage told that it will go upto 70k. The owner檚 manual says it should be changed at 60k. Which one is correct? How much it will cost? The gear is so hard in my car, is this related to belt? When do we change clutch disk? Please help me and advice about the cost in Manchester for these jobs. When to change cam belt on Honda Accord (W Reg 2000) model?
first off you're asking in the wrong country...this is the US...so scroll down to the flag of the UK and ask there..

here in the US we change the timing belt about 80,000. If it's a chain, we don't need it changed....now...the clutch plate needs to be replaced when it's slipping. If it's hard to shift, then you need to have the gears and clutch looked at. if it's squealing, then it's the throwout bearing. If you can't shift it may be the gears or the clutch, or both...

Here in the US a good job at the dealer will cost about $1500. for the clutch. 1/2 that in EU's/pounds

Hi there i would think it would cost between 拢80-拢100.

The Fiesta is a very popular make and straight forward to change a clutch to a person with experience.

I had a Fiesta which needed a clutch change i had a person come to the house and it took him about 1.5 hours or less.

This clutch ';specialist'; advertises in our Evening paper, Express %26amp; Star (I live in the West Midlands).

    I remember when he came i offered to make him a drink and when i went out to him he had removed the gearbox ';amasing';

There is a mechanics labor book that tells the mechanic how long a job should take. That time is how he charges the hourly labor costs to you. I done a clutch job years ago but it still the same... I am not a real mechanic and we ate lunch drank a few beers. Made a day of the whole thing. Bought a clutch plate alignment tool . We could have probable done it in 4 hours. But, like I say , we were in no hurry... If the mechanic finished the job before the book says--BULLY--he is a mechanic. He is still gona charge the hours what the book says. .

Its not really that hard mate , if u get a haynes manual they tell u step by step on how to take it off and replace it ..... all your doing is popping the bell housing off so no need to remove engine. its a sequence to getting it right so get a manual have a read and go for it ...
Under the gear selector unit on the gearbox you will find a number in reasonable sized print. If you post that on here it will be easy to tell you how big a job it is?Number is like F13 or F16 etc.Hope this helps
either 30 mins labour or 2 hours labour depends which gearbox is fitted to your car, both can be done at home on the path if you need to but neither are expensive to have done by a clutch centre.

Volvo 850 2.5 clutch slip or traction control?

hi ,im certain its cluch slip but could a fault with the traction control have the same effect ? switching tracs on or off dos'nt seem to do any thing ,i have no idea how or what it does so i wanted to rule this out before striping anything,

theres no oil leak so i dont expect clutch end oil seal to be the cause ,im guessing but i think car has been used to pull a caravan ,is it possible to change clutch plate whithout splitting emgine and gear boxVolvo 850 2.5 clutch slip or traction control?
the traction control on this model will apply the brake to the wheel that is spinning that doesn't sound like what is happening for you

while i have not had to replace an 850 clutch. i have had numerous automatics out for torque convertor seal replacement [both turbo and normally asperated] it is much easier[and faster] to remove the engine and transmission together as a unit with the wiring harnesses still on them from the top

than to be squirreling around underneath pulling subframes, hanging the engine etc.

[the wiring harness seperates inside the computer box, ac will have to be drained and tube removed from rt. front corner of engine bay and rt.headlamp assembely must be removed on some models.

a cherry picker type engine hoist and a adjustable [tilts engine/trans as it comes out]

lifting bracket must be used [the auto boxes have a rubber slap mount on the left subframe that must be removed/renewed for clearance] [20 dollars east coast u.s.]

the manual trans model may not have one at all.

once all is out, they can be split normally [one last note if you replace the rear main engine seal make a driver out of a piece of pcv plastic pipe to ensure the new seal goes in perfectly square].

the first time i did this i beat the standard repair time by more than a couple hours. the added bonus of doing it this way is that other services can be accomplished in minuites instead of extra hours [ie: timing componants, water pump, additional tune up services, throttle body cleanout etc.]

one last note get a good shop manual for your car and study it thouroghly before starting this project and while it can be accomplished by one person it is best to have a spotter while doing the removing and installing part, as body clearances are tight. beer is not recommended until after the test drive.Volvo 850 2.5 clutch slip or traction control?
If the engine revs rise up when your driving and the engines under load the its your clutch.Dont panic ,the volvo 850 is an easy box to remove.Disconect the exhaust first then remove prop shaft, remove the gearbox mounting and let the engine tip back to give you room to get the top bell housing bolts. If you havnt got use of a ramp or a pit, jack it up high and put 4 axle stands under it.Use the jack to lower the gearbox, youll need someone to help you with this,so buy a crate of beer and get some mates round.Get a manual it will explain about lining the new clutch up and any other unforseen difficultys
They're completely different symptoms: If th engine note rises, it's clutch slip - the TCS system cuts the throttle.

The clutch is between engine %26amp; gearbox, so you'll have a hell of a job changing it without splitting them - can all be done in car though, I think.
it needs a new clutch...sorry gearbox has to come off to change...on some early vauxhalls you could replace the clutch with out removing the box...but not on the volvo...

    Clutch Engagement Range?

I used to own a Honda F4... the bike rode like a dream minus all the electrical issues I had with it, so I sold it and purchased a Yamaha R6.

When I first got the R6, I would stall at every other light... the range at which the clutch catches seems to be much more narrow and less forgiving versus the Honda, and I needed time to adjust. I do understand how to change clutch freeplay, it is not an issue of where the exact catch point is (I've set the freeplay in accordance with the owners manual and I've ridden it enough that I comes naturally now)-- what I want to know is whether there is a way to increase the range at which the clutch catches. I've been riding around like this for a while now, and I've adjusted to it for the most part... I havnt had issues for months now until I stalled at a light today (carelessness on my part), which is what had finally driven me to ask whether there is anything I can do about it.

Any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated. Ride SafeClutch Engagement Range?

Clutch change on a citroen xantia 1.9 TD 1997?

Could anyone please give me some advice on how to do this, whether I need anything special to do it and if you have any diagrams or anything? I have done this before but only on a rear wheel drive. ThanksClutch change on a citroen xantia 1.9 TD 1997?
Not a very nice job.FWD clutches usually a bit more troublesome than the in line RWD ones. You really need to follow a manual of some sort as there are numerous things to disconnect before lowering engine on LH side and removing box.Loosen both drive-shaft nuts before jacking car up and removing front wheels. My tip is to disconnect lower suspension joints on both sides and remove both drive-shafts completely, after draining gearbox oil into clean container.( RH shaft has two awkward bolts at support bearing)Tie hubs back with rope to ease shaft and g'box refitting. Careful with the speedo drive rubber ';wedge'; Check release fork and arm is OK. and be careful not to dislodge release bearing as you refit g'box .You can centralise pressure plate on flywheel by eye and touch. Take care not to stretch any hydraulic pipes when you lower the engine.Good luck!!Clutch change on a citroen xantia 1.9 TD 1997?

How do you not burn your clutch?

I drive like a normal person. Dont have my foot resting on the clutch when driving. Dont hold it in when at a traffic light. I let the clutch out when your supposed to in 1st gear. When I shift I let my foot off the gas, fully engage the clutch, change gears, let the clutch out slowly while engaging the gas. Why do I get a faint smell of burning rubber when I step out of my car? I drive 09 civic si manualHow do you not burn your clutch?
there could be oil on the clutch and burning. 09? take it back and tell them to fix it. don,t you bother it or it could ruin your warranty. How do you not burn your clutch?
A burnt clutch does NOT smell like burnt rubber. Smells more like brakes do when you overheat them. You have something else going on there.
sounds like you're taking off fine, but when you're shifting, maybe do it differently. let off the gas and push the clutch all the way at the same time. Shift, let it out fast and hit the gas at the same time. Or just dont use the clutch to shift, your honda has a fully synchronized transmission.
no need to have your foot on the gas pedal before the clutch pedal is out \\\let the clutch out slowly while engaging the gas////

    the clutch should not slip.
Mustang... is correct - you're not smelling burnt clutch if it smells like rubber. A burnt clutch smells almost exactly like burnt brake pad, which is a sharp, slightly acrid organic-metallic smell.

If its a very low-mileage or new 09 model, you might just be smelling the bedding-in process on your brakes, gaskets and whatnot. Try popping the hood and see if the smell is slightly stronger there. If so, keep an eye on it, but otherwise, it sounds like the smell of a new car breaking in.
check your air pressure in your tires they are prolly low and the culprit of the rubber smell
that is a lever use it like one do not ride it/ thats what you are doing

Anyone know how to change a clutch cable in an 89 twinwheel transit PLEASE?

look its easy first check were the transmission is located if its on the left of the engine or right or under the gear stick .

second locate the cable on the clutch pedal get helper and tell him to press the clutch pedal and look for movement to locate the clutch cable.once you have located it take it off by pressing the clutch pedal down and with pair of pliers uncliping it/unbolt it from the transmission end.(always remember the cables route mark it if you need to)theres a cerclip at the pedal stopping the cable to come off take that off and the cable will slide off.

refitting it start feed the cable to the pedal and attach it to the pedal and secure it with the clip then feed the cable to the transmission garbing the end of cable with pair of pliers and pulling it until its in its position.Anyone know how to change a clutch cable in an 89 twinwheel transit PLEASE?
your best bet is to try to find a repair manual or contact the manufacturerAnyone know how to change a clutch cable in an 89 twinwheel transit PLEASE?
I've never tried on a twin wheel but on a 89 single wheel...

From underneath first undo the cable from the Gearbox end

Depending which gearbox is fitted it's either a adjuster that needs to be slackened and taken of or you can wedge something behind the arm and jemmy it off..That's the easy part, When the cable is disconnected from the Gearbox you need to realease it from the pedal end take care to have the drivers side footwell clean because there is a clip which attaches the cable to pedal and if you loose that you will have to go to a car spares shop or a breakers yard.

Once the cable is disconnected you need to go in the engine bay and take the whole cable from the bulkhead then it should be free to fall to the floor.... refitting is a reversal of removal........................Good Luck

its a pain in the azz
Since you have a Rover ; Normally it is a 4x4 which means its a lot harder to replace the the clutch than a 2 wheel drive! The good news is that its not as hard to replace the clutch as a front wheel drive. If you have enough friends with mechanical background and some needed tools you can do it. Otherwise you need to pay someone to do it.
It's impossible due to the fact it would cost more than the car is worth. End of the day....... It's a Rover 400.

    Also the 400 means it's worth in penny's...... Sorry ; )
As clutch replacements go, it's one of the easier ones (if you have the equipment). At least you don't have to remove a subframe.

93' toyota: how hard is it to change the clutch out yourself... if your not too mechananically inclined?

I'm being quoted 750 bucks by the local mechanics shop... I just went and bought the assembly myself... for 150. thanks.93' toyota: how hard is it to change the clutch out yourself... if your not too mechananically inclined?
I wouldn't even attempt this if you've never done it before, nor would I suggest taking your parts to a shop and having them installed as there will be NO WARRANTY. You also need to have the flywheel resurfaced and pilot bearing replaced when the clutch kit is replaced. I would take yours back and get your money back and pay the 750 and get a warranty.

EDIT - Look into where you live, I know where I live, the state will help people with car repair bills if you cant afford to pay that much.93' toyota: how hard is it to change the clutch out yourself... if your not too mechananically inclined?
If you have never installed a clutch and are not mechanically inclined, then i would not suggest attempting it yourself. If you do not know what you are doing you can cause severe damage to the vehicle.
The above person speaks the truth. If you start the project you will learn very quickly why they charge that much in labor. Most of the cost to get anything done at any shop is going to be mostly labor, and if you knew how much work those guys have to do with some things you'd understand why.

How do I reach the bolts behind the engine of my 1988 Isuzu Trooper suv in order to change the clutch ?

I have a 1988 Isuzu Trooper with 5 speed transmission and an inline 4 cylinder engine. I am used to doing some work on older, domestic vehicles where I can move my large hands about easily. I will need to replace the clutch. It seems to me that there is a ridiculously small, almost nonexistant amount of space between the clutch housing-to-engine bolts and firewall. some bolts I cannot even see. I wonder if anyone has run into this problem? JohnHow do I reach the bolts behind the engine of my 1988 Isuzu Trooper suv in order to change the clutch ?
When you remove the bolts on the rear mounts (at transmission) the entire assembly drop creating an access to the upper bolts. Be sure to drain the fluid from the transmission first or it'll get real messy. You will still have to use a long extension, and posibbly a swivel socket. How do I reach the bolts behind the engine of my 1988 Isuzu Trooper suv in order to change the clutch ?
a lot of times, piece of cake.

long extension(very long) and swivel socket plus drop lite, from drive shaft area.
You will have to move the engine forward. What I did was to take off the hood, take off radiator and the front grille. Took out the engine mounts and lifted the enginer slightly off the frame using a lifter. To move the engine a few inches forward, I also needed to disengage the engine propeller shafts and transmission brace and mount. Be sure you have a mount on that tranny case or it will fall down. Took about 4-5 hours work.

might find a how to can find most car repairs by typing how to replace how to install how to remove name of part and some times even a video by adding that to end since how most cars work everything about the same some things change but how to is pretty much same
The clutch and the fan come off as an assembly. Unbolt it from the water pump, change the clutch, bolt it back on.
it,s not hard to do. just take the belt off, take off 4 bolts and off it comes fan and all. then take out about 4 more bolts and off comes the clutch.

How can you change the clutch fluid in a 2002 gsxr and where is the spout located to fill it?

If you're referring to the hydraulic-actuated clutch (don't know if K2s have hydraulic or cable), it's the same deal as bleeding your brakes.

There should be a master cylinder on your left bar, and a bleed nipple (I'm not sure where, though your manual should show it, and if not, you could acquire a service manual online).

Get a bleeder kit, they're about 20 bucks and will save you making a mess.

It's often helpful to put a rag in a donut-shape around your master cylinder, to protect your bike in case you spill any fluid. (It'll damage paint)

Connect the bleeder tubing from the kit to the nipple and run it into a container. Syringe out as much fluid as you can from the MC, then put a little fluid in and do the following:

    - Crack open the nipple (just enough so that when you squeeze the lever it lets fluid out - should be about a quarter turn)

    - Squeeze lever.

    - Close nipple

    - Release lever

Repeat these steps until you see the new, clear fluid flowing out the bleeder tubing, making sure you've always got fluid in your MC (bleeding air out of the lines is a *****). Retighten the bleed nipple, disconnect the hose, and wipe off any fluid with a rag. Then fill up your MC to the line, chuck the cap back on, and you're good to go.

Check out some youtube vids to get your head around it first. How can you change the clutch fluid in a 2002 gsxr and where is the spout located to fill it?
There is no clutch fluid. Modern bikes have a ';wet clutch';, meaning that the clutch is bathed in oil from the crankcase. This way, the oil in the clutch gets changed every 3,000 miles, and it takes the additional manufacturing process of making a clutch fluid tank. How can you change the clutch fluid in a 2002 gsxr and where is the spout located to fill it?
The ';clutch fluid'; is actually brake fluid and it bleeds just like the brakes do..... start at the bottom bleeder and keep adding fluid to the top as the level goes down until the same color fluid comes out the bottom. -and thats it.............. its flushed and changed.

I don't know how long a MICHANIC takes. But a Nissan Master Technician can do it for 4.5 hours add 1.0 hour for sending out the flywheel for resurfacing. Also there are many things to do while the gear box is out. (list) rubber shifter mount, transmission mount, motor mounts, rubber clutch lever boot, shifter bushings, and front input shaft seal and gasket and tail housing seals. Also any gear switches or spedo drive that are leaking. Better make sure the U joints on the drive shaft are ok and change the (non hyploid) GL-4 gear oil in the gear box now

I just did the clutch on my subaru a couple weeks ago. You do NOT need to pull the engine. Unhook the trans from the linkages, wires, driveshaft, and bellhousing bolts. You do not need pull the front axles, as you just need to seperate the engine and trans far enough to get the clutch and flywheel out. (make sure you buy a new flywheel or get your old flywheel resurfaced). Replace the clutch and reinstall. Do not let the trans hang on the clutch when putting it back in, this will warp the clutch plate. I was able to hold the trans up with the front axles and trans crossmember mount.

How hard is it to change a clutch on a 2WD 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck? How much would it cost?

to a mechanic a clutch job on any truck 2wd is gravy work we love those the clutch kit can run anywhere from 100 to 200 i would go to local toyota dealer as they will probably have it in stock and ur getting the best quality of part how ever 97 would kinda have a few gm influences as toyota and gm have been friends since 92 when GEO came around so u could go with an AC delco clutch too neways its simple if u know what ur doing no u dont need a come along its not a semi support the front of the vehicle by jack stand as high as u can go. ull need all the room u can get next drop the drive shaft watch for gear lube out of the output shaft of the tranny with the truck at an angle u will loose alittle the motor is supported from the side dont worry about it next remove any crossmembers under the tranny out of the way with the tranny at an angle remove wiring harness speed sensor wires ect. then go inside the truck remove shift lever the remove tranny bolts from tranny support tranny with a jack and pull and drop tranny then R and R clutch throw out bearing and pilot bushing installation is reverse of removal. the pilot bushing is trick use a socket and some axel grease stuff the axel grease in the pilot bushing hole in the back of the crank using ur finger make sure u fill the socket with grease put an extension in the socket make sure socket fits snug in pilot bushing hole then with a hammer hit the extension as principles of hydraulics cant compress a fluid will force the pilot bushing out may have to hit and refill several times to make sure there is no air between the crank and pilot bushing u want that space full of grease and u do not want grease to come out between the socket and the bushing hole make sure its as tight as it can be or just use slide hammer and the right adapter. also make sure u put grease around the input shaft of tranny before install this will make them slide together easier and make sure u use the alignment tool to align cluch disc to crank hope this helpsHow hard is it to change a clutch on a 2WD 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck? How hard would it be to change a clutch pad myself?

Ive changed brake pad's and roaters before, how much more difficult would the clutch pad be?How hard would it be to change a clutch pad myself?
Replacing a clutch is a big job but one definitely worth doing if you want to learn. I'd recommend doing it but like Rick said, if you've never done it then it would be good to have someone there with you who has had experience. It's not necessarily a hard job; it just takes a while. Give it a shot though. What's the worst that could happen? How hard would it be to change a clutch pad myself?
I could be said the clutch job is no more diffciult than the brake job--when you get to it. That's the trouble. First you must seperate the transmission from the engine, first disengaging the balljoints and other parts. Then the transmission must be lowered. Afterwards, the tramsission must be raised and aligned and brought together and everything put back together. It's a whole lot more work than a brake job--and you won't be sitting outside on a milk crate the whole time either!
Considerable. To replace the clutch in most cars, you have to drop the transmission %26amp; get it out of the way. If you have a friend who has done this before, it would be worth a six-pack to get him to help, so you could learn. There are also specialized tools needs, like a input shaft stub tool. Maybe help your friend do his clutch, as a learning experience. It can be done on a garage floor, but you gotta know what you're doing....
if your talking about the clutch disc then your getting into a lot of work. it,s nothing like changing the brake pads and rotors. changing the clutch you have your work cut out for you and also you better know what your doing. for example you have to make sure the clutch disc is,nt in backwards.
If it's front wheel drive leave it to the experts. Brakes are child's play compared to a clutch.
By ';clutch pad';, do you mean peddle? If so it isn't as hard as everyone is saying.
a bunch more need to come apart

can be done but might want a repair book front wheel drives not easy like a older rear wheel drive car might have been
On most cars you have to seperate the tranny from the block to get at it.. Its sort of a big job..

OLD 4x4 are problematic because the interior where the shifters come Thur has to be removed and the gear shifters taken off and underneath the cross member rusted exhaust and drive shafts have to be removed. some technicians remove the tail housing and transfer case so they can angle out the transmission V-6 trucks one piece exhaust cross over is a real pain. Generally the charge is around 8.0 hours plus parts so at Nissan Dealer your lucky to get your truck back with about a $1,200/$1.500 charge. Then add hydraulics. Not a job for armature technicians sliding around on cardboard but it can be done. We all have to start somewhere...

How to change a clutch on a 4x4 Dodge power ram 250?

I have done many things with cars and trucks most of it body work. But the truck is an 88 btw any tips or pointers?? thanksHow to change a clutch on a 4x4 Dodge power ram 250?
you dont you take it to the junkyard and buy ford f250 turbo desielHow to change a clutch on a 4x4 Dodge power ram 250?
This is a big task on a 4x4. Both driveshafts need to be marked for location and removed. This means the wheels and tires need to be chocked. The nice thing is there is room to work with out a lift. The transfer case sits on the crossmember and is bolted to the rear of the trans. Using a block of wood and a floor jack positioned under the transmission will support the weight. The trans. should be able to seperate from the bell housing and the crossmember unbolt from the frame and the hole unit can be slid back about 4 inches. A couple C clamps positioned at the crossmember, the floor jack, and even a jack stand will keep this stationary so the pressure plate, flywheel, and disc can be removed. Doing it this way requires at least 2 people, please don't attempt this by yourself. If you are, a different method is needed.

I would recommend having the flywheel resurfaced or replaced, this will provide the best wear and life of the clutch. Most auto parts stores offer the clutch disc by itself or a clutch kit. The clutch kit has the disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and an alignment tool. Go with the kit, it will save a lot of head aches later. Make sure to use brake parts cleaner on the pressure plate and flywheel prior to assembling the cluch disc. This will remove any dirty and grease from the mating surfaces.

If I remember correctly this job books out at around 14 hours. Of course they expect you to disassemble the transfer case from the transmission. This saves about 3 hours. When using a jack stand, do not place it on the transmission input shaft, this could damage the inner bearing. Also replace the pilot bushing or rearing in the rear of the crankshaft.

The shifters will need to be removed, both the trans. and the transfer.

A lot of work, but it can be done. Hope this helps. Christopher
if its a 4 wheel drive its actually easier to pull the engine out than to try and pull the transmission and transfer case out ,unless you own a transmission jack,i have pulled more engines than transmissions to replace clutches because its easier and quicker, the only problem you have with doing it like this is it takes two people to do it and their real hard to line back up sometimes, but it still takes less time than removing the drive shafts and all the related parts to the 4 wheel drive, good luck.
Sometimes it's easier to pull the engine to replace clutch. Just a thought.

How much should i charge to change the clutch on 1997 dodge ram?

most places charge based on job hours. ie a certain job for a certain car is X job hours. shop rate (usuallly between 60 to 120) times job hours + parts = job. that way if the tech is good he makes more money if he gets the job done in 2 hours.

call someone else and ask for an estimate.

or you could pay yourself so many an hour (20) and charge for time spent. clutches depending on veh and work are usually 3-12 job hours because you have to drop the tranny. suv's suck too. do you have your own lift? that will add time and work. is it for a friend... that will reduce cost (usually). is there any other overhead? id charge 2-400 for a friend depending on how much of a pain those are (my specialty is japanese cars) good luck.

EDIT: mechanics arent criminals. they need to eat too you know. granted there are shops that do unscrupulus things, there are honest mechanics out there too. parts and time are expensive. and dont forget insurance, cost of building, and the education, technicians charge what they do because they worked hard to earn that right. if you have a problem with what mechanics charge then fix it yourself.

another edit: 10-15 bucks... you realize he has to remove suspension components, wheels, brakes and drop the transmission to replace the clutch... and then put it all back together. tell me rifter, what is the phone number to your dealer cause he is selling you the good ****.

  • How often do i have to change my clutch on my 2000 toyota echo?

When i shift it feels a like it gets stuck and i cant put it in 1st or 2nd or 3rd.How often do i have to change my clutch on my 2000 toyota echo?
Most likely it would not be your clutch that is causing hard shifts. Usually when a clutch goes out it causes the engine to rev and no power going to the wheels. I say usually, it is possible that the clutch disk has come apart and pieces are jamming together, but that is unlikely. Your problem sounds like either the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder is going bad. First thing to do is check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. If low, top it off with brake fluid, then bleed your clutch system. If that doesn't fix the problem, then check the adjustment. Your pedal should move about 1/4 inch before you start feeling the clutch. If it still isn't working, then change the clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder, refill with new brake fluid and bleed the air out.How often do i have to change my clutch on my 2000 toyota echo?
Have you been changing the transmission oil? Usually you don't change the clutch until it starts slipping (when you shift and press the gas and it goes nowhere for a second or 2).
    try adjusting it first

How do i change the clutch cable on my 2003 rm125?

my cable at the moment is very tight so i bought a new clutch cable but dont know how to put it on ... do i have 2 drain any clutch oil or anything? what do i do. thanks. How do i change the clutch cable on my 2003 rm125?
draining oil is not a requirement when changing out a clutch cable.

before installing the new cable you will of course have to take the old one off.to do this you will want to start at the engine where the clutch arm is where the cable hooks to,the end of the cable that is attached to the clutch arm should look like a Miniature barrel..there should also be a slot in the clutch arm where the cable slides through.you will have to probably move the clutch arm towards you so that you can persuade the cable through the slot.you will want to unloosen any nuts that's holding the cable in place before you go any further.now that you have one end of the cable taken care of you'll want to move up towards the left of the handle bars where your clutch perch is where the threads in to.screw the bolt at the end of the cable out from the perch, once this is done you'll be able to line up the cable with the slot grooves in the perch and lever.now, you'll notice if you look underneath the clutch lever that the end of the clutch cable again looks like a miniature barrel, after lining up the cable with the slots you'll be able to pull the cable through.now that you have the old cable out you can replace the new one by doing this procedure in reverse order as explained.

    good luck

before you take off the old one u will want 2 squese the clucth in and put vice grips on the lever by the engine. if not it will be hard to hook up the new one.

then 2 take off the old one just unscrew i at the lever at the handle bars. then at the engine.

to put the new one on just hook it up the same way u took off the old one.
Before you take it off take digital pictures or, better, feed the new one to sit side by side with the old one so that you get the routing correct, a poorly installed/routed cable will not work correctly and may be damaged.

I belive you have to pop off inspection plate around bellhousing.. You will have to bleed it out... Good idea,, do it now. before who knows what happensHow do you change the clutch fluid on a 1994 Jeep Wrangler?
set the brake, block the wheels securely and get underneath and locate the clutch slave cylinder, there you find a small bleeder screw with a rubber cap. using a hose to a container, open briefly open the screw and have a mate gently push the pedal down about half way. (there will be no resistance!) repeat alot and top up the resevoir before it emptys, replacing the cap each time. takes awhile. don't let air in!
Leave it alone, you do not need to replace it.
most service shops will do it for a cheap price it is worth it

How do you change a clutch cable for an aprilia rs 125?

do you need to take the whole engine apart just to change a cable? How do you change a clutch cable for an aprilia rs 125?
No,wind off the adjuster on the lever that you pull. Then pull the nipple and cable out.Loosen the adjuster at the engine and do the same(it may be a good idea to photograph exactly where the cable feeds down).Once you have disconnected at both ends, you can now feed the whole cable out.Refitting is the reverse, but make sure it doesn't snag or kink anywhere and the bars turn freely without affecting operation of the clutch.Once fitted you should adjust to give 2-4mm free play on the lever.

If I remember correctly you'll have to remove cross member thats under the transmission and tranfer case. You'll have to unhook the drive shafts, linkages and remove the transmission and transfer case, You'll need to resurface flywheel and replace clutch assembly. How do you change a clutch in a 1978 ford bronco with a 351M engine ?
If you have never done this, please get a manual and study the steps. Basically you will:

Support the vehicle on jack stands or a lift

Support the transmission while you remove driveshaft and crossmember

Remove shifter from inside the car

    remove transmission

    Remove bellhousing from engine

remove pressure plate and clutch disc.

    reverse all this to reinstall.

Put in new throwout bearing while doing this.
